The one thing
La Mer built a ritual that exists nowhere else for Spa La Mer at Les Airelles, called Genaissance de La Mer, drawn from the brand's own rare Miracle Broth Crystal, and the spa's ninety minute Miracle Broth facial carries the same exclusivity, closing with a sequence of ice found only here. You feel the broth warm first and then the ice bring everything back to the surface, so the treatment ends on a note most facials never reach.
The verdict
Les Airelles calls itself a snow castle and means it. The hotel was restored after 2007 under a design narrative built around Empress Sissi of Austria, turrets, stained glass and all, so the building itself is already telling a story before anyone reaches the spa. It sits inside the Jardin Alpin, skis straight onto the Trois Vallées, the largest linked ski area in the world, and has carried France's Palace distinction since 2011.
The spa takes its name from La Mer, and that is not a badge stuck onto a generic menu. The brand's Miracle Broth, a fermented kelp ferment that takes months to mature, runs through the whole treatment list, down to a hydrating facial and a contouring treatment built from the same base. Where a lowland spa might offer the same facial a hundred other places do, this one is built from ingredients the brand keeps mostly for itself.
Recovery here has a medical edge most hotel spas never reach for. An onsite physiotherapist and osteopath deliver orthopraxy, reflex work and lymphatic drainage, so a body that has spent the morning turning hard snow underfoot gets looked after by someone trained for exactly that, not just a therapist with a good pair of hands. The Intraceuticals oxygen infusion exists for the same reason, countering the dry, thin air at 1,850 metres rather than treating skin as if it were anywhere else.
The hotel also claims the world's first snow cave, a recovery space built from ice and compacted snow. It is the house's own claim rather than one independently confirmed, but even taken on trust it fits a spa that keeps finding ways to answer the mountain on its own terms, through a cryotherapy chamber, an indoor pool warmed against the cold outside, and an outdoor jacuzzi heated to forty degrees that turns a short walk through snow into the best part of the treatment.
The water
The indoor pool runs generously sized with three water features, warmed enough that stepping in from the cold corridor feels like the room exhaling around you. An outdoor jacuzzi, heated to forty degrees, sits a few steps beyond it, so you cross a stretch of real Alpine cold to reach water that pulls the chill straight back out of your shoulders. Two saunas and a hammam carry the rest of the circuit, and sensory showers and bubbling cascades keep the whole sequence from ever feeling like a single room repeated twice. The snow cave and a cryotherapy chamber branded Cryoness sit at the cold end of the same journey, built for a body that has already spent a morning in proper winter rather than one that has only ever seen a sauna.
Treatments
Every facial here starts from La Mer's Miracle Broth, and the house has built two rituals that use it in ways the brand keeps rare: the Genaissance de La Mer treatment, drawn from the Miracle Broth Crystal, and an After Ski treatment the hotel describes as exclusive to this address. Tokio Inkarami, a forty five minute hair remedy that keeps working for weeks after you leave, sits alongside By Terry for makeup and Carole Joy for hair and barbering, so the salon side of the spa is taken as seriously as the treatment rooms. A separate practitioner, Innerskin, offers HydraFacial and LED work for anyone wanting something closer to a dermatologist's toolkit than a traditional facial. The physiotherapist and osteopath mentioned already run their own menu of orthopraxy, reflex and lymphatic drainage work, genuinely aimed at ski legs and tired shoulders rather than general relaxation, and a small spa menu exists for children under twelve.
Getting in
The pool and the rest of the thermal facilities belong to hotel guests, so a stay is what opens that side of the spa. Spa treatments and the salon are a different matter and can be booked by anyone, staying or not, so a day trip built entirely around a Miracle Broth facial is genuinely possible. In room treatments and anything booked outside the spa's normal hours are handled on their own terms, so it is worth asking about this when you reserve. The hotel reopens for the season on the fourth of December. Check availability with the hotel directly to book.
What to know before you fall in love
The hotel runs to a winter season only, and while this December's reopening date is confirmed, the spring closing date for 2026 to 2027 has not yet been set, so build travel plans around the season rather than a fixed end date. The pool, saunas and the rest of the thermal circuit are reserved for hotel guests, so anyone wanting to swim and sit in the heat needs to be staying, even though the treatment rooms and salon are open to everyone. Spa size and the exact number of treatment rooms aren't stated anywhere, so anyone with a specific requirement, a couples room for instance, is best checking directly before booking.
Best for
Skiers wanting recovery built around the specific toll of altitude and cold, couples and skincare lovers chasing an exclusive La Mer ritual found nowhere else, and anyone drawn to a hotel with a genuine Olympic era history behind its stained glass and turrets.
