Forbes's own professional inspectors describe the interior in soothing grey tones, slate floors and walls lit by rows of candles, set against endless window walls looking over the water, and independent reviewers add a slate water wall at the entrance and the scent of peppermint, eucalyptus and rosemary running through the building.

Riva, a Mediterranean and Italian inspired restaurant, sits physically on the Active Level rather than elsewhere in the hotel, used for robe friendly lunches on the days when a guest is booked onto a Half or Full Day Ritual. It is a genuinely large format spa, closer in scale to a wellness resort than a hotel amenity, and the two level structure means the pools and thermal suite can run at their own pace while treatments happen on a separate, quieter floor above.

The water

The Active Level carries a twenty metre indoor pool with an infinity edge, an indoor and outdoor vitality pool with a pass through between the two so a guest can swim from inside to out without leaving the water, and a salt water pool set within its own thermal suite alongside a sauna, a steam room, an ice fountain and heated relaxation loungers. A separate Spa Level holds its own Male and Female Areas, each with outdoor vitality pool access and its own sauna, steam room and ice fountain, so the wet and warm experience effectively repeats itself across both levels rather than being confined to one. Full body massage runs fifty or eighty minutes only, so anyone picturing a straightforward hour long rub down will find the menu built differently, while facials and body treatments range more widely, from a sixty minute Inner Beauty Facial to a two hour fifteen minute Harmonising Ayurvedic Ritual. Half Day Rituals run two hours fifteen minutes and Full Day Rituals up to three and a half hours, each folding in facility access and lunch at Riva alongside the treatment itself, and a maternity range and a men's specific menu, including the Gentleman's Tonic, sit alongside the main list.

Getting in

Non residents can book treatments and Spa Rituals directly, which is a genuine point of difference for a spa this size. What does not exist is a standalone thermal or pool day pass, so a day visitor who wants the Active Level's pools and thermal suite without a treatment cannot buy that access on its own, only through a booked Half or Full Day Ritual. The Active Level itself opens to all ages from seven in the morning until six in the evening, becoming sixteen plus only from six until nine at night, while spa treatments carry a sixteen plus minimum age throughout, whatever the hour.
