Saltmoore opened in November 2024 after a major rebuild of the whole property, set across an eighty five acre estate that runs from the North York Moors down to the sea at Sandsend, just north of Whitby. Two Michelin Keys followed within a year, alongside recognition from the Times and the Sunday Times as one of the best places to stay in Britain and, separately, its best seaside hotel, so the wider property has moved fast from opening to genuine national recognition. The Sanctuary, its spa, sits inside Saltmoore House, the larger of the estate's two hotels, and is now run as an adults only space throughout.

What makes the spa itself stand out is not scale, since this is a boutique facility built around one pool rather than a sprawling thermal village, but two genuinely distinctive additions. The Lakeside Sauna sits apart from the main spa building, tucked beside the estate's own lake, and is booked privately for up to six guests at a time rather than shared with other spa guests, a proper hour of heat with nobody else in it. The cryotherapy chamber goes further still, a full body session at minus eighty five degrees lasting three minutes, sold as a single visit or as a course, and it sits alongside the more familiar sauna, steam room and ice bath rather than replacing them.

The water

Getting in

Treatments and packages are bookable directly with the spa, and residents booking Saltmoore House itself get spa access included as part of their stay, while guests of the estate's second hotel, the family friendly Beach House, can add access for a set charge if it is not already part of their rate. Anyone booking through a third party site rather than direct pays separately for a two hour session. The Sanctuary is now run as a fully adults only space, eighteen and over throughout, with groups capped at six people.

Children are not excluded from the estate, only from this particular spa. A separate pool at the Beach House, roughly three hundred yards from Saltmoore House, is kept for children aged fifteen and under with a supervising adult, its own changing rooms and lockers included, so families travelling together can still swim, just not inside The Sanctuary itself. Dogs are welcome across much of the wider estate but are kept out of the spa and the main restaurant specifically.
